History of the League
The Basketball League was started by Founder and Executive Director of the Gentlemen's League, Dr. Archie M. Moss, Jr. Dr. Moss piloted the idea of a league in the Fall of 2017 when he approached a few of his former colleagues: Mr. Key Coleman, Mr. Jonathan Humphrey, Mr. Antonio Harvey, who were principals at Cummings K-8, Lucy ES, and Hawkins Mill ES. Each school decided to create a basketball team and play friendly games.
Word began to spread across the district, and schools began to express interest in joining the league. In Spring 2018, Dr. Moss created Shelby County Schools first ever Elementary Basketball League. The Spring 2019 League consisted of 24 SCS Elementary Schools who were placed in four divisions (Central, South, East, and North). Each school played 10 games and the top four schools advanced to the playoffs. The last full season prior to COVID-19 was the Fall 2019 Season. The winners of the Fall 2019 league was Bruce Elementary School.
