Members of the Gents League in Memphis, TN were posed with the following question:
"Do you think black males have a positive image in the media and in society? Why or why not?"
Some of their responses are below:

Javontez Martin,
8th Grader and tgl President, memphis, TN

I think blacks do have a positive image in society if you just give them a chance. Not all blacks are bad. I think it's just 1 spoiled apple spoils the whole bunch. If people stop judging us by our surroundings; just because we live in the ghetto, doesn't mean we are ghetto, and to be honest if it wasn't for blacks we wouldn't have street lights, light bulbs, etc.

Devante' Willis,
7th Grader and tgl VP, memphis, TN

I don't think black males have a positive image because black males are always getting shot or killed.

corey cloyd,
8th Grader, memphis, TN

I do think black males have a positive image because black men choose to either do right or not. See, black males in The Gents League chose the perspective to follow in good footsteps. Us, black men are intelligent; we don't just go on the media talking about others, we use our knowledge for good.
